Golden Milk: The Ancient Elixir for Modern Wellness

Golden Milk is a popular drink that has been enjoyed for centuries, particularly in Indian Ayurvedic tradition. The main ingredient in Golden Milk is turmeric, which contains a powerful compound called curcumin known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This warm and comforting drink is perfect for unwinding after a long day and promoting overall health and wellness

You can always buy ready-to-add turmeric paste (also known as golden milk powder), but I prefer to make my own. Here are two different ways you can make this delicious and healthy drink.


Golden Milk Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups of any milk of your choice (I use almond or coconut milk)

  • 1 inch of fresh ginger (or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)

  • 2 inches of fresh turmeric (or 1 ½ teaspoons ground turmeric powder)

  • 1 tablespoon of ghee (or coconut oil)

  • 1 pinch of black pepper

  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks (or 2 small pinches of ground cinnamon)

  • Stevia, monk fruit extract, or honey (optional)

  • 2-3 cloves, ground cardamom (optional)


Instructions

  1. If you're using fresh turmeric and ginger roots, wash them thoroughly and slice or grate them.

  2. In a small saucepan, combine the milk of your choice with the turmeric, ginger, ghee, and cinnamon sticks. If you prefer ground cinnamon, add it at the end.

  3. Add a pinch of black pepper, ground cardamom, and cloves to the saucepan.

  4. Sweeten with honey or your preferred sweetener to taste.

  5. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it starts to simmer. Be careful not to let it boil.

  6. Once the mixture is hot and well combined, strain it into your cups.

  7. Serve and enjoy your warm and delicious Golden Milk!
